School Closure

Procedures for Bad Weather And School Closure

On very rare occasions it is necessary to close the school due to severe weather or other emergencies. The safety of children travelling to and from school is our prime consideration. We take advice from the Police, the Local Authority and the relevant bus companies. If bad weather closure should occur the following procedures will apply:-

PLEASE NOTE A CHANGE IN PROCEDURE – INFORMATION WITH REGARDS TO SCHOOL CLOSURES WILL NO LONGER BE BROADCAST ON LOCAL RADIO STATIONS

1.

Heavy Snow Overnight.

If we choose not to open the school at the start of the day the information will be posted on the school website www.manningtreehigh.com. In addition to this, a live news feed will also appear on the following website: https://secureapps.essex.gov.uk/schoolclosures/schoolclosuresdisplay

If possible, a Schoolcomms message will be sent to parents/carers.

When the school remains open there may still be routes or homes where the weather situation makes it unsafe to travel. The final decision regarding travel to school, rests with you. As for any other absence we would encourage you to ring in.

2.

Heavy snow or other unforseen event during the school day.

When conditions for travel become unsafe or safety on the school site cannot be maintained, parents/carers will be contacted and the following arrangements will be made:

A.

Students who live locally, including Mistley

These students will be allowed to leave and make their own way home.

B.

Students who travel on contract buses

Buses to these villages will be requested to come early.

C.

Students who travel by train or other bus services

Students will be allowed to leave school early to catch an earlier train or specified bus home.

D.

Students who use taxis

The school will inform taxi companies

The school will remain open, with staff supervision, until the last child leaves the premises.

3.

Parental Enquiries during the school day

If you are concerned about deteriorating road conditions please check the website first to see if we are closing thus allowing students to leave earlier. You are also welcome to ring the school; however lines may well be very busy. In the event of any early closure you may wish to pick your child up by car. If you have planned to give other children a lift please check you have the necessary insurance cover.

Please ensure your child has somewhere to go if they arrive home early. We will not let students go home without parents/carers knowledge.
